A business that was started in order to sell burlap bags, now produces and distributes hundreds of different bags, packaging options and packaging equipment to companies around the world.

Volm Companies, Inc. was started in 1954 as a family operation in Bryant, Wisconsin. The Volm family sold groceries and hardware supplies. They also ran a small feed mill, serving the needs of local dairy and potato farmers. During this time, Volm realized that their local farmers needed a reliable supplier of used and new burlap, as well as miscellaneous supplies. Volm formed distributor relationships with other bag companies and moved its growing business to Antigo, Wisconsin. The company has since expanded into multiple office and manufacturing locations, acquiring other companies along the way to broaden its range of capabilities and distribution areas.

Today, Volm works with customer such as Dole, Sunkist and Green Giant to produce packaging that fits their specific food items. Volm also works with national and regional retailers, such as Menards and Fleet Farm, to distribute consumer items such as snow and garden fences, shade cloth and privacy fabric (e.g. for tennis court wind enclosures).
